2016 has brought some serious competition to the next couple years in terms of beautiful designs and trends. I couldn't be happier that more and more parents are jumping on the sophisticated children's interiors train. Nothing makes me jiggle more than a well designed nursery or childs room that is just as pleasing to the adult eye as it is to the childs imagination!
Most of the time I'm a fan of following your intuition as opposed to following specific trends, but sometimes I get lost in the forecasting of whats next to come. Could we really top the Pastel Palaces and Rose Gold Cribs that 2016 brought? Yes! Heres whats coming, whats here to stay and whats going...
Pastels: I'm pleased to announce that this one beautiful trend is definitely here to stay! And so it should. This is without a doubt still one of my favourite colour palettes to work with.
Vintage Inspired: This one I predict won't be making a comeback in 2017. Although lovely, I predict we will be taking our pastels to a slightly more modern and cleaned lined haven.
Rose Gold: Rose gold made its way from living area to nursery around 2015, who could deny the charm of Incy Stores rose gold cots? In saying that I've seen a slow decline with this one and believe it'll remain in the fond memories of 2016.
Statement Cots: this will be back, but I have a feeling there will be a large movement towards cots that transmute with the childs age. You want a cot to grow with the child, especially when you're spending big bucks on it!
Natural Wood: More of this please! Natural wood styling is coming back next year with a vengance and I'm stoked because I don't think we've seen enough of this one yet. Think wooden mobiles, shelves and display boxes. Perfect.
Black and White: This trend was mostly inspired by the Huxbaby movement. Black and white geometric shapes in every corner. Although striking, this one is staying behind in 2016 and alas has almost already started to fall away.
Bright Colour: With the death of black and white comes the birth of all things primary. Yes as bright as possible is going to rock out in 2017.
Home-made: With an interest in children's decor on the fast incline, many parents are starting to get stuck in and produce elements for the nursery themselves. Things like beautiful felt mobiles, hand painted wall murals and furniture will be taking centre stage.
So there it is, my thoughts on 2016 and beyond. With so many exciting options to inspire, go forth and conquer!
